Our long-serving, friendly and helpful staff are the life force behind our practices, ensuring that we can serve the local community with consistently high standards of eyecare.

Meet the team below:

Peter Brooks BSc (Hons) FCOptom

Peter, also known as Mr Brooks, or ‘PB’, opened the Dalkeith practice in 1977 with his wife, Anne. The Gorebridge practice followed in 2000. Building the Dalkeith practice from the ground up was a true labour of love and life for Peter. After more than 40 years of running the practice in Dalkeith, and 20 years in Gorebridge, Peter’s role now revolves around providing support and consultancy to our team of highly experienced optometrists.

Laura Brooks BSc (Hons) MCOptom DipTp (IP)

Peter’s daughter Laura joined the practice as a fully qualified optometrist in 1999 and now also manages both practices. She participated in many shared care schemes and has worked at the local eye hospital as a paediatric optometrist. Laura is now a qualified Independent Prescribing (IP) Optometrist and is a designated optometrist within the Lothian Eyecare Service for Special Schools, based at Saltersgate School. 

Claire Mihaylov BSc (Hons) MCOptom DipTp (IP)

Claire joined us as an optometrist in 2003 after qualifying in 2000. Since then, she has gained further qualifications and is now an Independent Prescribing (IP) Optometrist. Claire works alongside Laura as a designated optometrist within the Lothian Eyecare Service for Special Schools. She has also worked at the local eye hospital as a pediatric optometrist and in the glaucoma clinic.

Tijana Radman  MOptom MCOptom

Tijana joined us in 2024 having graduated from Ulster University in 2021 and qualified fully in 2022.  She has proven to be an asset to our business and is popular with both patients and staff. She hopes to work towards her IP qualification soon.

Scott McKay  BSc(hons) MCOptom DipTp (IP)

Scott has worked with us on a regular basis as a locum optometrist since 2024.  He qualified in 1998 and like Laura and Claire, he is an Independent Prescribing (IP) Optometrist.

Patricia McMaster BSc (Hons) MCOptom DipTp (IP)

Patricia qualified fully in 1999 and holds an additional qualification as an Independent Prescribing (IP) Optometrist. She initially joined us as a locum optometrist in 2015 and now helps with occasional holiday cover, allowing us to leave the practice in safe hands.

Optical assistants

Our optical assistants Donna, Jennifer, Louise, Heather, Emma, Gillian and Carolyn are very important members of our team. With up to 25 years of experience each (over 100 years together!), they are the first voices to welcome you on the phone and in practice and will always provide their honest opinions to help you find the perfect frames for your individual and lifestyle needs.
