About Us

Founded in 1977, Peter Brooks Optometrist has been a fixture of the Dalkeith community for over 40 years. We also opened a branch in Gorebridge in 2000 and are proud to have long-serving staff in both of our locations, who provide friendly, family-focused, and professional services to people of all ages.

Both of our practices have the latest equipment, empowering our team to give customers the highest possible standards of eyecare. As independent opticians, we have the freedom to stock a huge range of frames from the best brands around, and to give every customer the time and attention they deserve throughout their visit.

Our practices are Covid-safe for staff and patients, with advanced safety measures in place to ensure we can provide comprehensive examinations while minimising risk to all.

Our services

We offer a wide range of services for all the family, including:

• comprehensive eye examinations
• retinal photography at no extra charge where appropriate or desired
• screenings for eye conditions such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts
• OCT scans to track changes in the eyes and help detect serious eye diseases
• dispensing of glasses prescriptions, including those supplied by other practices
• contact lenses
• children’s eyecare
• acute, red-eye, sore eye consultations
• VDU examinations and associated voucher dispensing

Our story

Our founder Peter Brooks built the Dalkeith practice quite literally from the ground up, including the fixtures and fittings! He’s worked hard to offer the highest standards of care to his patients ever since and celebrates 45 years in business in 2022! Peter’s daughter, Laura, joined the team as a fully qualified optometrist in 1999 and is now responsible for day-to-day management. Peter continues to offer support and consultancy to the staff behind the scenes.

We’ve been involved in many shared care schemes, working in partnership with the local eye hospital and have collaborated with the Royal National Institute of Blind People. We continue to participate and collaborate widely and in your best interests.

Investing in the practice is a top priority, whether that entails upgrading our equipment, or making sure our team stays up to date with regular training and research, so we can continue to serve the needs of our customers.
